Assistant to the Villain — Book Review
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I adored Assistant to the Villain. It was one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. It’s one of those books that literally made me laugh out loud, and I had such a fun time reading it.
The Villain
My favorite thing about the book was definitely the Villain himself, also known as Trystan Arthur Maverine. He’s supposed to be the most dangerous villain in town, and he does plenty of evil villain things, but he also has these unexpected soft spots that make him so entertaining.
For example, he can’t drink coffee without sugar or cream, so he has Evangelina Celia Sage, his assistant, secretly sneak it into his coffee so nobody finds out. I loved little details like this because they show that even the most intimidating characters can have funny little weaknesses.
The World
I found the fantasy world really amusing, and Hannah Nicole Maehrer’s descriptions made it pretty easy to imagine.
One of my favorite parts was Massacre Manor and the fact that it’s invisible and built in the middle of a forest.
The Humor
The humor is one of the biggest reasons I enjoyed this book so much. It’s funny, but it also feels realistic.
The book was funny at times, mysterious at others, and sometimes really exciting. It was mainly there to entertain you, and it definitely succeeded at that. One thing i will say though is that Assistant to the Villan doesn’t really have a plot like i said it’s just there to make you laugh.
The Characters
I liked Evie a lot. She’s such a positive person, even when she’s in difficult situations, and she always seems to know how to make everyone at Massacre Manor laugh—sometimes even her evil overlord.
I also really liked the Villain. Despite being the most dangerous villain in town, he has a softer side that makes him much more interesting.
One of my favorite side characters was Becky, the HR (Human Resources) manager. She’s extremely confident and takes her job seriously, but if you mess with her, she definitely knows how to tell you off.
The Pacing
The pacing was really good. Usually, when I’m reading, I like to keep track of my pages and check whether I’m halfway through the book yet. But with Assistant to the Villain, I just kept reading, and before I knew it, I had finished the whole thing.
It was such an easy and entertaining read that I never felt like I was forcing myself to continue.
The Writing
I really enjoyed Hannah Nicole Maehrer’s writing style. It was very entertaining and made the book easy to read.
Her descriptions were also a really big part of what made the book so great. They helped me imagine the fantasy world and the characters while still keeping the story fun and easy to follow.
⭐ Final Rating
Overall, I absolutely loved Assistant to the Villain. It’s funny, entertaining, easy to read, and filled with characters that are impossible not to enjoy. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
