The Hunger Games — Book Review
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I absolutely loved The Hunger Games. My favorite thing about the book was seeing the characters fight for their lives and the lengths they were willing to go to just to survive. The story was so full of action, and Katniss was constantly in survival mode, which made it really hard to put the book down. The Hunger Games
The Games themselves were exciting, suspenseful, and sometimes completely unexpected. Just when things seemed to become a little less brutal, something would happen—like a forest fire or another natural disaster—that would force the contestants together again. I loved how the challenges kept changing because it meant I never really knew what was going to happen next.
At times, the Games were so intense that I could almost imagine myself in the characters’ shoes. The story constantly made me wonder what would happen next, which kept me reading.
Panem & The Capitol
I thought the idea of having different districts was really interesting, but I also found it sad how difficult life was for people in some of the poorer districts, including Katniss’s own district.
And then there’s the Capitol. I absolutely cannot stand them. They have so much power and do whatever they want without caring about how their actions affect other people. What I hate most is the way they turn the Hunger Games into entertainment. They watch children fight for their lives as if it is a show, and whenever things become less entertaining, they find ways to make the Games even worse.
I honestly cannot express how much I dislike the Capitol.
The Characters
Katniss is definitely my favorite character. She is incredibly strong, always stands up for the people she cares about, and isn’t afraid to do what she believes is right. I think she is exactly the kind of main character The Hunger Games needed.
I have to admit, I didn’t really like Peeta. I found him a little too dependent on others, especially when it came to fighting and surviving. However, one thing I will give him is that he is extremely good with words, and that became one of his biggest strengths.
At first, I found Thresh a little confusing, but as the story continued, I started to understand him more.
And then there’s Rue. I absolutely love Rue. She’s only twelve years old, and honestly, she deserved so, so much better.
The Writing & Pacing
The book was pretty easy to read, and I could clearly visualize the scenes while reading. I also really enjoyed Suzanne Collins’ writing style.
I thought the pacing was really good. The story never felt unnecessarily slow, and there was always something happening that made me want to keep reading.
⭐ Final Rating
Overall, I give The Hunger Games 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was a really good book, and I would definitely recommend it to someone else. It has so much action, suspense, survival, and emotion, while also introducing a world that makes you want to understand more about Panem.
I will definitely be reading the second book. I’m also interested in Mockingjay and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes because I’ve heard they focus more on the politics and history of Panem, which is something I would really like to learn more about.
