The Hunger Games & Catching Fire — Book Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐The hunger games has been a really great reading experience so far. Both The Hunger Games and Catching Fire were well written, action-packed, and full of high-stakes moments. I’ve read books with fighting before, but these books had so much more action and survival. I especially loved watching Katniss do everything she could to survive.

The Two Books

Out of the two books, The Hunger Games was my favorite. I thought the characters were better, the enemies were tougher, and overall, the first book had a lot more action. Catching Fire was more focused on strategy, but it still continued the story really well.

One thing I really liked was how much bigger the story became after the first book. Katniss pulling out those berries may have seemed like such a small act, but the consequences were undeniable. The first book focused mainly on the Hunger Games, while the second book started focusing more on what happened because of them, including the politics and consequences surrounding Katniss’s actions.

Catching Fire

I thought the Quarter Quell was such an interesting idea. Every 25 years, there is a special Hunger Games where the rules are different and basically anything is possible.the original hunger games were amazing but the Quarter Quell just hit differently.

When i finished Cathcing Fire i turned the page and found the ackknowledgements i was so shocked that the book had ended particularly by the way it ended.

The Characters

One character who changed the most for me was Haymitch. In the first book, I didn’t really understand him. To me, he was just this old man who was lazy and didn’t seem to want to do his job especially when it came to doing it right. But in the second book, I started to understand him much better, and I realized there was a lot more to his character.

My favorite character overall was Finnick. He was mysterious, supportive of Katniss, and a true strategist.

Why I Didn’t Continue

Suzanne Collins’ writing was really good throughout both books. The action made the books exciting, and there was always something happening that made me want to keep reading.

However, I decided not to continue with the rest of the series. From what I understood, the story becomes more focused on the politics, the war in Panem, and its history. I felt like the action became less central, and the story started to get more boring for me.

It also becomes a heavier read, so you really have to really lock in to understand everything that’s happening.

Final Thoughts

Even though I stopped after the second book, I still think the story is worth continuing if you enjoy the political side of the series. The Hunger Games and Catching Fire were both great books, and I really enjoyed seeing the story grow from a survival-focused competition into something much bigger.

Overall, I give the two books I read ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5 stars.
