The Cruel Prince — Book Review
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Cruel Prince was such an epic book. I absolutely loved the world of Elfhame, the politics, the betrayals, and the constant fight for the throne. There was always something happening, and I never knew who I could trust.
The World
I loved the world of Elfhame. I thought the idea of humans living among faeries was really interesting, although I didn’t love how they were usually treated as servants.
The faeries themselves were one of my favorite parts of the world. They were so beautiful and fascinating. They weren’t quite fairies and not quite elves—they felt like something completely different, which made them even more unique.
The Politics & Power Struggles
One of the things I loved most about The Cruel Prince was the politics. The betrayals, power struggles, and constant fight for the throne were simply epic.
I never knew who was going to betray whom or what someone was really planning. There were so many people fighting for power that it was hard to know who could actually be trusted.
The Characters
Jude is a great main character. She’s brave, ambitious, and reckless, and I loved her constant urge for revenge. She never wanted to back down, even when things got difficult.
I had mixed feelings about Cardan at the beginning. At first, I absolutely hated him, but as I got further into the book, I learned more about him and his backstory. That completely changed my perspective of him, and I eventually started to like him.
As for Jude’s sisters, I wasn’t a huge fan of Taryn. She was very afraid of the consequences and wasn’t willing to take Jude’s side or help her, which made me dislike her.
Vivi, on the other hand, could be selfish, but she could also be useful when Jude needed her.One thing i really admired about her was how she always knew how to get Madoc angry.
One character I particularly disliked was Locke. He was just really annoying and two-faced, and I never really liked him.
The Pacing
I thought the pacing was really good. The story kept moving without feeling too slow, and there was always something happening that made me want to keep reading.
The Ending
The ending was shocking. It genuinely made me think, what just happened?—but in the best way. I definitely wasn’t expecting everything that happened, and it left me wanting to know what would happen next.
Final Rating
Overall, I give The Cruel Prince 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I loved the world, the politics, the betrayals, and especially Jude’s character. The story was exciting and full of twists the relationships between characters were constantly changing creating an epic story to read.
I’m definitely going to be reading the rest of the series!
