Once Upon a Broken Heart — Book Review

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Once Upon a Broken Heart is an epic fairytale filled with magic, curses, and enchantment. From the beginning, I felt completely pulled into the story, and I loved how easily I could get lost in its world.

The Story

I really enjoyed the plot. There was so much to figure out, and the twists were so unpredictable that I was constantly wondering what would happen next.

One of the biggest mysteries for me was what really lay behind the Valory Arch. I loved having all these questions in the back of my mind while reading and trying to figure out what was actually going on.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the little rumor papers written by Kutlass Knightlinger. They were such a fun detail, and I always enjoyed reading them.

The Characters

I really liked Evangeline. She lives on hope and truly believes in happy endings, which makes her such an interesting main character. I also think she is kind, brave, and a little impulsive, and I enjoyed seeing how those qualities affected her choices.

And then there’s Jacks. Honestly, the book was great, but whenever he appeared, it went to a whole other level. He is so mysterious and would just pop out of nowhere, which made every scene with him exciting.

I also found his obsession with apples so interesting. He always seemed to have an apple in his hand, often in different colors, and it became one of those little things that made his character even more memorable.

While reading, I mostly trusted Jacks, but there were definitely moments when I became suspicious of him and started wondering what he really wanted. I never felt like I could completely figure him out.

The World

I really loved the world and its history, especially the Magnificent North. I loved the cold weather, and the whole place felt magical, with something interesting happening around every corner.

I also found the history of the world really fascinating. There were so many details about its past that made it feel like a real place with its own stories and secrets.

The Writing

I really enjoyed Stephanie Garber’s writing in Caraval, but I enjoyed it even more in Once Upon a Broken Heart. Her descriptions were absolutely spectacular. I could clearly visualize everything—the clothes, the places, the food, and even the characters.

She has a way of describing things that makes them feel almost magical, and I loved being able to picture the world so clearly while I was reading.

Final Rating

Overall, I give Once Upon a Broken Heart 5 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
